Alexia & Colin’s colorful Morada Bay wedding was the last celebration we were a part of before the pandemic put the world on pause. The vibrant, fun vibe of both their wedding and their spirit as a couple was an absolute gift for all involved! Bride Alexia shares her heart with us below.

When & where did you meet? What made you select the Florida Keys as your wedding day destination?

“Colin and I met at Cornell University during our freshman orientation week. We lived in the same dorm and remained friends throughout college, both interested in each other, but the timing never worked out. Colin is from Montana. I was born and raised in Miami. I bumped into Colin through a mutual friend at a bar in New York City about a year after graduating. We were both single and decided to go on a few dates. I think knowing one another as long as we did prior to dating allowed us to be comfortable enough to do some fun dates from the start, like sky diving and camping. Experiencing new things and pushing our boundaries has been at the core of our relationship since the beginning.”

“We love being outdoors and spending time in nature together, so we knew we wanted an outdoor venue. We looked at a few wedding venues around our neighborhood in Coconut Grove, but didn’t connect with any of them. My mom recommended we check out Morada Bay and when we did, it was everything we wanted! The view is spectacular, and it had the relaxed vibe we were going for. We were able to have the wedding in a natural setting and we could continue partying late with our friends in the Beach Cafe. It was also important that all guests sat in a singular unified space. We wanted everybody to sit together and feel like family. Many of our guests were traveling a considerable distance and the keys were a perfect place where people could come and celebrate but also have a nice vacation and a break from the cold.”

What inspired your wedding?

“I fell in love with the fun and colorful chairs at Morada Bay Cafe the moment I visited the venue. They were so unique. I loved the colors. I wanted flowers that played into the Florida Keys beach vibe that were colorful, but would not clash with the chairs. We went with delicate pinks, yellows and oranges with the main flower being pink bougainvilleas. I loved it! A big thank you to Julia and Parrish Designs!”

What detail about your wedding day was most meaningful to you as a couple?

“A small detail that meant a lot to us was our wedding favor. We decided to give out re-usable bamboo cutlery sets to use on the go (with a straw, fork, knife, spoon and even chopsticks!) to help reduce the amount of plastic waste from plastic forks, knives, and straws that continue to pollute our environment, especially the ocean. We wanted something our guests would use and that would have a positive impact on the natural spaces we love.”
